After 2 years, SZA has released her deluxe version of "SOS: LANA." The new 15 tracks showcase her growth and expression of her new self. The theme follows love, peace, and troubled relationships. She presents this over warm and centric production, with soft and gritty guitars and catchy rhythms and flows. For this post, I'm just gonna talk about the highlights and what I like about this deluxe, instead of doing a whole deep dive and analysis of the album. Starting with "What Do I Do," I enjoy the simple pluck/chord and soulful trap production. It's a great vibe and obvious lush vocals. The next track is "30 for 30" featuring Kendrick Lamar. A collaboration between SZA and Kendrick Lamar, it's always going to be a great song. With an Rnb sample from Switch's "I Call Your Name," these two have a great back and forth, and have a strong delivery of verses and a solid chorus. A top-three song from this album. "Chill Baby" is a mellow track, with a smooth R&B instrumental, SZA sings about finding peace in such a crazy life. "My Turn" has a lullaby/lofi production melody and chords, with soulful trap drums. This track reflects on a toxic relationship and the treatment done by her partner. The next couple of tracks were solid songs and offered great vocals, such tracks as "Crybaby" and "Drive." The last track which was (released a good while back) "Saturn" is also a track I enjoyed.
Overall, I believe it's a strong 7.8/10. For a deluxe, I think it could stand pretty strong on its own. I don't think there's a single bad track. However, some tracks have a very similar vibe and don't catch my ear. Of course, this is my 1st impression and my rating can change over time.
