Kali Uchis: "Red Moon in Venus" Album Review

With her new album coming later in January, I thought it would be a perfect time to review some of her previous albums. Bolded means my favorite. The album was released in March of 2023. "Red Moon in Venus" is Kali Uchis' third studio album which she released in January, and received many positive reviews.

Overall Rating: 8/10

This album has nice groovy and 80/90's synths and bass. One track in particular "Love Between" reminds me of a jazz club or something that should be played in a jazz club. Kali Uchis has that love/seducing type of voice, which makes sense because this is an R&B album. "All Mine" is my favorite track off the album. However "Moonlight" was the track that went viral all over the internet. The album has an interesting message, in which she talks about being in love, but later falling out of it and eventually being on her own. The first half starts with caring and loving her significant other, while near the end of the album it breaks into how she wants a better lover.

An example of this would be track 13, "Deserve Me" ft Summer Walker, which dives into how her lover doesn't treat her right. The last track "Happy Now" also dives into how she and her lover are on their path, and how she doesn't want to think of the past. "Don't wanna think about the pain or the heartaches (la-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la) Just wanna remember all the good things." In a way, it goes full circle. The whole album is like a previous/cycle of a relationship. You fall in love with a person, and all you do is think about them, then you start to realize who they are as a person and lose interest in them. You want to move on and try to only remember the happy times. Unfortunately, I haven't been in a relationship so I don't know how that would feel. :(
